Spiderman, Spiderman, Does Whatever a Spider Can

On Saturday we went to Performax Gym for their 1st birthday bash as Spiderman was making a guest appearance. Ollie had been looking forward to it ever since we got the flyer in the mail for the event, and as far as I could figure out, he expected that a real-life Spiderman would come out and show all his skills and moves, such as swinging from buildings and shooting webs. Well, the real world has a lot of tough lessons for a four-year-old. During the middle of the show, Oliver leaned over and asked me, "Is Spiderman going to talk the whole time or is he going to do tricks?" While Jed and I were actually pretty impressed with the Spiderman show, when we asked Ollie after the show if he thought it was fun, he simply replied, "no." He did make an exception for the part at the beginning when Spiderman shot web (silly string) at the crowd - "that part was fun," he said. All in all I think we all had a fun morning. The performer in the Spiderman suit did a great job of interacting with the crowd, and Performax gave out a ton of prizes and had free food too. I could not believe how many people showed up for the event, but I guess Utahn's (myself included) just love free stuff!

What a deal!

I just discovered this new store on Gordon called Eagle Eye Produce - I got all the food in the picture for $8.64! I was so excited, and love to brag about a good deal.

What a beautiful week!

I must say that was the most beautiful week (weather-wise) that I have seen in a long time! We took full advantage of it by going to the zoo on Wednesday, hitting the pavement for various walks, going to the park, and having a cook out complete with a camp fire at uncle Bubba's to end the week. I had a few dinners that I had stockpiled in my freezer for a day when I needed a quick-fix-home-cooked meal, and I used almost all of them this to give myself a week off of cooking! I don't know what was more glorious, the weather, or not having to worry about dinner. Anyway, it was perfect because it gave me more time to play with the kiddos outside, and not have to worry about being home from activities in time to start making a meal. I am sad to find out that the next few days are going to be anything but nice, but at least we took advantage of the spring-like temperatures while we had them.

The difference between a mom and a dad...

One of the differences between a mom and a dad (I have found), is that somehow kids know that a mom never really goes off duty. Case in point: Last night I snuck away to have a shower while Jed and the kids were playing in the front room. After about 5 minutes, Avery came walking in to the bathroom, making cute little faces at me through the glass. Then she decides she wants to come in. So now she is standing fully clothed in the shower, and loving it. I would have just taken her clothes off and let her experience it all, but there is one problem - she has a dirty diaper. Luckily Jed came to the rescue and changed her, then she came in for a real shower - her first one ever. She made it look so fun that after a few minutes Oliver was in there too. (Now mind you, dads can take showers whenever they want without visitors - how does that work?) So my alone time turned into the family shower! And you know what - it was so funny and cute that I didn't mind at all. I love being a mom, and alone time is overrated!

Happy Birthday Jed!!

My wonderful husband had a birthday this week, and we celebrated with homemade pizza and brownie sundaes. Oliver helped him blow out the candles and made the whole evening very exciting. It was low key for the most part, but very enjoyable.
Then on Saturday we had a birthday picnic with all of Jed's family to celebrate his birthday as well as Carrera's. It was SO fun - we all stayed for about 4 hours! The kids we absolutely in heaven being outside for so long. They had great entertainment with Garrison and Kade's rocket and then the yellow bee airplane, as well as the playground. The food was great - was a wonderful inauguration to the springtime season. Next time, all I would change is the wind - kept it just a little chilly.

Avery's new look

Avery has recently developed the best crusty look I have ever seen a one-year-old have. Boy does she have attitude! I tried to capture it with the camera - it doesn't quite do it justice but it is close! P.S. The second pic is also a funny face that Avery makes, totally unrelated to the mad crusty look though.

Let's go fly a kite...

We have been enjoying the barren landscape around our house with model airplane flights and kite flying. Ollie got really into it this weekend, and loved to hold the kite string as well as launch the kite. It took a while for us to remember exactly how the kite was supposed to be put together, but we finally got it, and eventually got it to stay in the air. It was a little rocky for the first few go-arounds - the kite would dive after only a few seconds in the air, and it almost hit me more than once.

Where does he come up with this stuff?

So Oliver is in an inquistive/contemplative stage of his life right now. He is asking the most amazingly adorable, smart, and down right funny questions and making comments left and right. Some of his today were:

*Isn't it amazing that when you move your shadow moves too without you even knowing?

*Isn't is amazing your body grows and you don't even think it is?

*Mom, is that whole wheat milk you are giving to Avery?
Here is a new and adorable picture of him, with Carrera's new pup. One day, after Carrera brought the little guy over, I asked him if he liked the dog, and he got a sad face and said, "I miss him." Kids are the best thing in the world.
